....the time has arrived when the music industry has to hang it's head and say "they found out"...the technology
is now available to let yourselves be heard across the whole wide world....without pressing a single record or burning a stack
of CDs...though if you have the demand the CD route is still not a bad thing...mp3smith is committed to offering a service
for new and established bands to make headway through the internet. The bands that are featured in the music link pages have
already recorded tracks...some in a studio...some on a home studio(otherwise known as a PC or Mac, be it a monster tower device
or a laptop or a dedicated recording item...possibly utilising software that costs less than a recording session. Their recordings
have been converted to web friendly mp3 format and having joined a site such as Soundclick.com for free, have been able to
upload their tunes to that site along with photographs and words. Soundclick only let you upload 320kbps files if you subscribe.
For free membership the mp3 file can't be higher then 128kbps.
A major step has been accomplished...the tunes are no longer imprisoned in the hard-drive or owned by a select few friends.
If you choose to go the Soundclick route you will most likely find people inviting you to sign up their friends list....fear
not. Although many are simply hoping to add a few clicks to their own ratings, this is not a bad thing because you too can
invite them onto your friends list. You just advertised yourself on each others pages....you may want to limit this to people
you think reflect well on you....you will probably find yourself checking out their friends list before risking attaching
yourself to something that is totally alien to you....but you may well find some good people out there....they are doing the
same thing that you are doing.
There are many other sites out their that can be beneficial to you but beware the ones that insist on taking charge of your
rights...that is a no-no. You don't sell your babies...you sell copies of them...or offer them as free downloads...which may
be more beneficial in the long run as more people get to download your art and share it round friends. If you do get a big
deal, the original downloaders could well want to buy a 'better' version of what they already have.
Don't overlook the other possibilities for 'networking' your music such as myspace and particularly myspace music. If you
sign up there be sure to get a band account in place of the standard one.
